Hi! Can you tell us a little about yourself?

Hi! I am from the UK and have been living in Dubai for nearly 15 years with my husband and four children. I worked as a furniture maker before we left the UK, and later as an English language teacher upon arriving in Dubai.

Why did you decide to learn English?

I’ve always enjoyed studying and learning languages. I learnt French and German at school, Italian for my A-Levels and whilst I was at university. The reason I decided to start studying both Arabic and Spanish was in order to help my children with their language studies at school.

What made you choose a course at Eton Institute?

The institute is conveniently located for me as I live in Meadows. I also find that with so many teachers available you can easily arrange a schedule that suits your needs.

How was your experience studying at Eton?

I have really enjoyed it and intend to keep going with both languages.

What’s your best tip for people who want to start learning Spanish and Arabic?

Start straight away! You won’t regret it. Also, right from the beginning, immerse yourself as much as you can by reading, and watching TV and films in your target language and try to do a little each day to keep up the momentum.

What did you find challenging and how did you overcome it?

The biggest challenge for me is finding the time to study. I try to make sure I have a routine so I am less likely to forget or allow other things to get in the way.

Are there any other languages on your bucket list?

I would love to pick up Italian again. I do not have many opportunities to use it and I seem to have forgotten a lot.
